AHRO participated in the conference "indigenous people-invisible people " organized by UNPO

Ahwaz Human Rights Organization (AHRO) representative in Brussels attended the conference "indigenous people-invisible people " organized by UNPO in European parliament on 22 April 2015 ,alongside the representative of Association for the Human Rights of the Azerbaijani People in Iran (AHRAZ).

 

The conference was divided to two panels : first panel on exploitation and the environment and second panel on language, culture and identity .

On EU and indigenous rights in south America Mr.Adrianus Koetsenruijter head of South America Division EESA ,talked about obstacles, challenges and the opportunities that are faced by indigenous people who are fighting for recognition .

In his speech Mr.Koetsenruijter stressed on binding by ILO 169 convention on indigenous and tribal people .169 convention is a legally binding international instrument open to ratification, which deals specifically with the rights of indigenous and tribal peoples.

Mr.Rafael Railaf from Mapuche Nederlands Network and Ms.Alina Rodenkirchen ,Mapuche coordinator for society for threatened people and German Mapuche Network separately spoke about the sufferings and the mistreatment of Mapuche minority in Chile .one third of Chile indigenous people live in poverty .

Other minority groups that were discussed during this conference were the Batwa ,living across the order of the Democratic Republic of Congo ,Uganda Brundi and Rwanda ,The Awa ,the nomadic tribe in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in the north-eastern of Para and Maranhao and the Degar-Montagnards inhabiting the central western mountains of Vietnam .
